SPELL O PHILO- Season 5 -The School spell smartly

“Spelling is important because it aids in reading. It helps cement the connection that is shared between sounds and letters.”

In the time and age of auto-correct, predictive text and spell check, Spell-O-Philo, an Inter-School Spelling Competition for classes IX and X, organized on 24th November 2017 came as a whiff of fresh breeze. The Chief Guest of the event was Navin Upadhyay Chief of Bureau, The Pioneer, Delhi . He motivated students by emphasizing the importance of English, the correct usage of vocabulary and need to learn spellings. The competition,with the theme, The Time Line English knitted itself well with the royal ambience of magnificent flowers, scrolls depicting English Era as well as a tricolor representation about the Indian writers and their works in English.

 

The linguistic journey began with Prelims: Figuring Out Things & Go the Extra Miles! and the top formidable five teams entered Finale:The Royal Combat. Here the Combatants: The Jutes, The Welsh, The Vikings, The Celts & The Britons had to encounter another set of nerve-wrecking spelling and literary challenges under rounds viz.Alpha Charlie, Ruck Up & Big Voice. The Combatants who crossed the threshold obtained Star Power as points.The Audio-Visual Rounds not only entertained the audience, kept the spirit of competition active but also served to enrich the vocabulary bank of the participants.

 

Students participated with great enthusiasm and dueled through even the toughest rounds viz. Zone of Action & Bang Bang. to prove their mettle. Each participant was given a book, titled You Can Win by Shiv Khera as a token of appreciation.

 

Finally, DPS Indirapuram buzzed away to success and was declared the winner with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a Rolling Trophy. The First runner- up was Cambridge, Indirapuram and Second runner up was Bal Bharti School, Brij Vihar who bagged Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 respectively.
