Spell-O-Philo 4 -The School spell smartly

The annual flagship event of St,Thomas School, Indirapuram, Spell O Philo IV, an Inter School Spelling Contest held in the memory of H.G. Job Mar Philoxenos was organised on 24th November, 2016 at the School Premises at 9:30 a.m. This year it was garbed in the theme ‘Galaxy’. The event was graced by Dr. John Varghese, Principal, St. Stephen’s College. As usual the team was mentored by Rev. Fr. Saji Yohannan, Chairman of the school. Mrs. Maneesha Joshi, Principal, St.Thomas School, Sahibabad was amongst the special invitees.

The event began with the prayer while the dignitaries lighted the lamp and offered floral tribute to the departed souls, H.G. Paulose Mar Gregorious and H.G. Job Mar Philoxenos. The Vice Principal, Madame Shali Nair delivered the Welcome Speech. The Chief Guest then ceremonially declared the competition open. The participants were given souvenirs as a welcome gesture. Mrs. Prashanti Medicherla and Mrs. Sangeeta Saxena was the panel of jury. The Preliminary Phase, ‘Formation’ (worksheet) and ‘Evolution’ (Dictation), was conducted by Mrs. Jaimol John, TGT English. The summative results were declared by the Jury. Mrs. Maneesha Joshi encouraged the contestants by giving away special mementos. The Semi Final, ‘Steady State’, with laps named ‘Ellipse’ and ‘Spiral’ respectively, was conducted by Mrs. Mythili Venugopal, PGT English. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering by emphasising the relevance of spellings in language. He then handed over the first copy of the annual issue of the school newsletter, ‘Xpressions’ to the Chairman, thereby releasing it officially in the presence of Team Xpressions. Thereafter, the summative results of the round were declared by the Principal, Sir V.K. Kuriakose.  Special handcrafted mementos were given away as a memoir. The five finalists then faced the final Round called The Big Bang. The audio and visual laps were conducted by Mrs. Vandana Khera, TGT English. and the decisive rapid fire round was conducted by Mrs. Denisha Sudheer, PGT English. The final results were declared officially by the Chairman of the school. The Second Runner Up, Team No. 12, D.P.S Public School, Ghaziabad, Vasundhara was presented a cash prize of Rs. 3000. The First Runner Up, Team No. 3, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School was presented a cash prize of Rs 5000 and last but not the least, the champions for the day, Bal Bharti Public School, Brij Vihar, was awarded a rolling trophy and a cash prize of 10,000. Madame Rachel Reji, the Headmistress of the school rendered the vote of thanks. The event concluded with the School Anthem.
