What is counselling?

Counselling is a process that occurs when a client and counsellor set aside time in order to explore difficulties which may include the personal, social or emotional aspects of the client. Counselling can facilitate in decision making, choices and changes.

Counselling is Not:

  • Giving advice.
  • Judgemental.
  • Attempting to sort out the problems of the client.
  • Expecting or encouraging a client to behave in a way in which the counsellor may have behaved when confronted with a similar problem in their own life. Getting emotionally involved with the client.
  • Looking at a client's problems from your own perspective, based on your own value system.

How does it help?

Exploring an issue increase your awareness of it, and counseling helps by providing you with a safe environment in which a person can carry out their exploration. With the help of the counselor a child can uncover pattern, causes and symptoms attached with an issue.

Benefits of Counselling?

Greater self knowledge and understanding can enhance your relationship with yourself and others and improve your sense of choice and self esteem. This in turn can cultivate the feeling that life can be enjoyed rather than endured.

At the core of therapy is a confidential and collaborative relationship where the therapist guides the person on a journey of increased understanding. Therapy offers a relationship with the intent of alleviating distress and rekindling hope.

Many situations in life leave us feeling powerless and a feeling of no choices. My hope is to help the person move from a position of self doubt or insecurity to one where they feel more in control; to give you back choice in your life and hopefully the confidence to use that choice.
